Assalamu alaikum my favourite and only Ustaza,
Studying Surah Mulk with you in the past two days was a new venture in my journey with Qur’an. Your explanation of a “meaningful life” was both stimulating and empowering. JazakAllahu khairan
Feeling empty and loosing touch with the meaning of reality, is a part of life for many people. Due to the unconsciousness of their minds, human beings stand aloof from their actions and its consequences; all things, good or bad, go by us like a torrent. We exist like the driftwood in a stream, mechanically and unconsciously going through one stage to the next. In contrast, Surah al Mulk emphasizes on the importance of being attentive (وَقَالُوا لَوْ كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ أَوْ نَعْقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِي أَصْحَابِ السَّعِي), focusing our mind and concentrating on fulfilling the purpose of our life, rather than being led willy-nilly by our habits and whims.
Surah Mulk teaches us that life is something more than busyness for busyness’s sake. Many people go through life acting feverishly towards goals that are meaningless, or downright harmful to themselves and others. This is an utter waste of time and talent bequeathed to us by our Creator. Allah gave us life to establish quality work (الَّذِي خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ وَالْحَيَاةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلً). Instead of frantically hastening through one task after another, we must become poised and precise in our endeavours, essentials only—nothing else! Study when it is time to study and do only that to the best of our ability. Also, take out time to care for the house and be a cheerful company. Prioritize your responsibilities and carry them out at its designated moment with excellence. Let ever action precede thought instead of tumult. Examine every endeavour and execute it skillfully only if is worth Allah’s pleasure and His Paradise.
Surah Mulk also draws our attention to the order that exists in the skies and the earth. The harmonious seven skies (مَّا تَرَىٰ فِي خَلْقِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ مِن تَفَاوُتٍ ) and the humble earth (هُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ ذَلُولًا) display the characteristics, which the Creator desires from human beings. Allah wants us to possess high morals and positive ethics. He wants us to be compliant and constructive human being.
An entire book can authored on the gems and judiciousness of Surah al Mulk. I used to be surprised when I would hear of the number of voluminous books the Salaf like Imaam ibn Taimiyah and Imaam al Suyuti produced but now I realize that any person who tastes even the slightest flavour of Qur’an cannot possibly pull up his pen from writing analysis and reflections. May Allah enable us to comprehend the Qur’an, live our life in compliance to it and convey it to others aameen.
Dear Ustaza, please grant us the honour of your visit to Canada. I would be most privileged to learn from you.

JazakAllahu khairan,
Wassalam,
